Feeling Not Good Enough

Do you often feel as though you're falling short, no matter how hard you try?

Most people experience moments of self-doubt from time to time. But if you constantly feel that you're not good enough, those doubts can become part of the way you see yourself. No matter how much you achieve, how hard you work or how often others reassure you, it can feel as though there's something fundamentally lacking about you.

You may compare yourself to other people and feel that everyone else seems more successful, confident or capable. You might dismiss your achievements as luck, focus on your mistakes rather than your strengths or worry that you're letting other people down. Compliments can feel difficult to believe, while criticism—even when it's minor—can stay with you for days. You may find yourself constantly striving to prove your worth, yet never quite feeling that you've done enough.

Living with this belief can affect every area of life. It can make it difficult to pursue opportunities because you doubt your abilities, lead you to settle for less than you deserve in relationships or leave you feeling anxious that others will eventually realise you're not as capable as they think. Over time, constantly questioning your worth can leave you feeling emotionally drained, disconnected from yourself and unable to appreciate the qualities that make you who you are.

Many people who feel "not good enough" are kind, hardworking and deeply conscientious. They often hold themselves to exceptionally high standards and are far more compassionate towards others than they are towards themselves. This belief rarely appears out of nowhere. It often develops gradually through life experiences such as criticism, bullying, difficult relationships, unrealistic expectations or growing up feeling that love or approval had to be earned. Over time, these experiences can shape the way you see yourself, even long after the circumstances have changed.

The good news is that the way you see yourself is not fixed. Therapy is not about convincing you that you're perfect or encouraging unrealistic positivity. Instead, it helps you understand where these beliefs came from, gently challenge them and develop a more balanced, compassionate view of yourself. As your confidence grows, you can begin to recognise your strengths, accept your imperfections and stop measuring your worth by impossible standards.

Together, we can explore the experiences that have shaped your self-beliefs, understand the patterns that continue to keep them alive and help you build a healthier relationship with yourself. Many people find that as they begin to let go of the belief that they are "not good enough", they feel freer to pursue opportunities, build healthier relationships and live with greater confidence and self-acceptance.
